In a small village in Portugal, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared six times to three humble children, delivering messages of hope, prayer, and conversion that continue to inspire millions of faithful around the world.

The First Apparition

Three young shepherd children — Lúcia, Francisco, and Jacinta — saw a radiant Lady above a small holm oak tree in the Cova da Iria. She asked them to return on the 13th of each month and to pray the Rosary daily for peace in the world.

Over the following months, Our Lady revealed three secrets, urged devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and called the faithful to prayer, sacrifice, and reparation for the conversion of sinners.

Before a crowd of nearly 70,000 witnesses, the sun appeared to dance, spin, and plunge toward the earth — a miraculous sign confirming the authenticity of the apparitions. Newspapers across Portugal reported the event.
